The Liverpool Carousel stands on Pier Head. The image was painted to celebrate Liverpool’s past present and future. The galloping horses have been replaced by children’s rides based on Liverpool’s maritime, rail and cultural icons. Alfred Holts Blue Funnel ships sailed from Liverpool to Australia, China, East Indies and India. George Stephenson’s steam locomotive, the Rocket Famously, the Rocket won the Rainhill speed trials, travelling at just over 30 m.p.h. Liver Bird struts centre stage on the carousel and between its beak, a shamrock, a reminder of Liverpool’s Irish heritage and community. The yellow submarine follows the Liver Bird.
